Getting the right group of people around you kickstarts a process. Making sure that everyone has the same vision comes next. It is not hard, it just needs passion and perseverance.
Löwen River Rewilding has, as its core, the desire to restore Nature’s canvas or bring back the wild beauty of Southern Namibia. The place will never become a tropical forest. Yet, it has a few ecosystems on its own. So sometimes, the best action is to let Nature play its course. Give it time.

With perennial fountains that provide year-round fresh water, a river bed that is rich in sediments and water tables as well as a canyon with its maze of rocks and cavities originating from 650 million years of erosion, the foundations are there.

We see our responsibility to protect a few oases of pristine land and wildlife. In some cases, it means to use ground water for restoring vegetation (planting trees that will create a canopy and benefit undergrowth), in other places to remove barbed fences, building structures and allow access to wild animals. Use technology (solar panels, anti-desertification cocoons), remove the impact of grazing from over 500 sheep, 300 goats and some 80 cattle for the last four decades. Takes time.
We just got started. And Nature is already proving more resilient and rewarding.
Pierre has that Afrikaans saying
Namibia is a very thankful country, with a little bit of rain, it gives a lot.
Until it rains, we will support Nature and sparingly use water in 1 or 2 test areas.
