Ten springbok crossed first. The rest followed in their own time. Their release is a milestone—not a finish line—for Löwen River’s restoration work.

Before springbok could return to the veld, Löwen River had to build a boma that could withstand wildlife, wind and a few hard-earned lessons.

A breeding herd of 24 springbok has arrived at Löwen River. Their return brings movement, new genes and a vital piece of the Nama Karoo food web.

NDVI satellite data confirms 7,000 hectares of previously bare soil are now under vegetation cover following this season's rains — and the ecosystem response didn't stop at plants. Four wild honeybee colonies moved onto the property, and a new research project is starting to map the site's resident and migratory bird species.
